As humans we have a propensity to want to influence the outside world, to leave a mark, some sort of legacy. We have a natural instinct to want to communicate and share our lived experiences by way of storytelling.
As social beings, we also have an innate need to want to belong, connect and to share knowledge with others who will listen. We all do the best we can with what we have as we try to navigate this odyssey called life.
My aim is to share my story for myself and for others like me who can identify with some aspect of my lived experience. If nothing else, this experience has been quite a cathartic release for me. Being an adult, a mother, wife, sister, a teacher…has shaped my experience, and maybe my blog can help someone else feel a little less isolated and bring some sense of comfort, offer some helpful resources, or maybe a chuckle or two.
On my Port-Wine Stain (PWS) blog, there are two main pages to navigate
1. MY PWS BIRTHMARK ODYSSEY
-“When It’s Comfortable to Smile Again”–A narrative about my latest facial reconstructive surgery and laser treatment after an 11 year hiatus.
2. BIRTHMARK RESOURCES & RESEARCH
–Facebook Support Groups-Nearly half a dozen Facebook support groups for people with birthmarks or for parents whose children have birthmarks
